Information for divers on the Isle of Youth

A large percentage of the visitors to the Isle of Youth come to dive. The Colony Hotel is usually the main destination for divers.
Although the hotel is close to the diving spots, it is located in a very remote area of the Island, where one can get bored quickly.
Cubans only show up as hotel employees; also there is a mosquito problem at night and the entertainment program is quite poor and the food quality is mediocre.
Therefore, you really have to consider whether you should live in the capital city Nueva Gerona and make the 46 km to the diving center.
You can rent a car (with several people) or take a taxi (one way ~ 30.00 CUC / round trip 45.00 CUC).
There is also the option of using the hotel employees' bus; This only costs 5.00 CUC per route. This option must be organized by the owner of your rental house.
Currently, the owner of the "Villa Gerona" hostel offers the service. It also offers assistance in booking flights (Havana - Nueva Gerona).
A trip to the Isle of Youth is a bit more expensive (flight / ferry), but will be rewarded with a splendid vacation on "Treasure Island".
